Can Alignment for your sedan or SUV save fuel?

by Larry Jamison on December 28, 2015, under Mechanic's News

Imagine you are no longer in Colorado Springs, but instead, you are in the arctic and traveling by dog sled.

Your team of dogs is pulling straight and you are covering a lot of ground very quickly. Now imagine one of the dogs wanted to go a separate way and they were pulling the sled off to one side.

Most certainly, that would slow the sled down. It would be more of a struggle to guide the sled in the direction you want it to go. The dogs are still working as hard as they were before, but now you are covering less ground.

You’re wasting kibble.

This same idea is true with the wheels on your vehicles when they are out of alignment. The wheel that is pulling to the side is actually making you push harder on the gas pedal to keep your same speed. You are wasting gas.

The moral of the story is to have your wheel alignment checked no less than once a year. If you feel your car pulling to the side, make sure you have the alignment checked right away. Things as little as a small bump to a curb or hitting a pothole can knock your wheels out of alignment.
Contact Master Tech Automotive in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We’d be delighted to check your car out to make sure you’re driving straight and saving gas!!
