Colorado Springs Brake Systems Repair
Many of today’s cars have disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in back. And all brakes rely on friction, which is supplied by either a brake pad or a brake shoe to slow and stop your car. To stop a wheel, a disc brake uses a caliper fitted with brake pads to grab a spinning disc, or rotor. A drum brake has a wheel cylinder that pushes a brake shoe against the inside of a spinning drum.
While some noises are normal when you brake, a continuous grind or squeal is likely a sign that it’s times to get new brake pads. There are other warning signs that indicate there may be issues with your brakes as well. For instance, you may experience a soft pedal or your steering wheel may shake as you brake. These are red flags that you may have a problem with your brakes and should see a specialist to diagnose what is going on.
You will want to also refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for a guide to preventative maintenance. This will ensure that your brakes are in good operating condition and is the best way to avoid unexpected system repairs. At a minimum, you should have your brakes looked at annually to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones.
